Weight not right

Guess "nit picking" but your article on the 917 was a bit astray. I do not have the figures for the 5.4 litre 1973 car but the 5.0 litre twin turbo 1972 version weighed in at 750 kg when the aluminium tube chassis was used, and 735 kg for the magnesium tube version. Not the 1200 kg stated in the article.

Interestingly the tubular space frame chassis of these cars were fitted with a tyre valve. This neat bit of lateral thinking by the Porsche engineers allowed the mechanics to quickly check the chassis for cracks.

The importance of this test can be understood when it is realised that the magnesium chassis complete with all brackets weighed only a little over 45 kg!
