Goodyear launch Airtex liner
Airtex been used in the manufacturer of products ranging from upmarket shirts to heavy-duty 'tarps'. And now the Yokohama Rubber Co has launched a new-material inner liner that the company claims is the 'next-generation technology' that adds to fuel efficiency by reducing air leakage.
The Airtex advanced liner, which adheres to the inside of the tyre, has been developed by adding a special resin to conventional inner-liner rubber.
The material is almost completely airtight and flexible and is said to substantially reduce the volume of air naturally leaking from a tyre.
The liner is also only about one-fifth as thick as a conventional product, making the tyres lighter and more fuel-efficient.
Over the ten years, Yokohama Rubber has marketed role-resistance ECO tyres, the company has found that under inflation can easily nullify any efficiency gains.
The quest to improve automobile fuel efficiency as part of measures to prevent global warming has again drawn attention to the importance of maintaining correct tyre pressure, which is one of the most neglected maintenance items.
